Adams County School District 50

Adams County School District 50 — just north of Denver — has struggled with a high dropout rate and low test scores. When the district launched its bold standards-based education initiative to turn those dismal numbers around, its leaders knew keeping parents and the community well informed would be critical to its success. Schoolhouse Communications conducted communications research, developed a comprehensive communications plan, and created user-friendly materials — including a short video, parent guides, a poster, and an employee communications tool kit. Sample materials available upon request.

American Association of School Administrators

What happens when you bring together the best and brightest superintendents from across the country? For the last six years, Schoolhouse Communications has served as the lead writer for AASA’s annual National Superintendent of the Year conference. Our work documents the candid insights of today’s top superintendents. Find out what creative strategies superintendents in rural, urban, and suburban districts are using to improve student achievement, strengthen leadership, and build support for public schools.

Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development

Children deserve a 21st-century education that fully prepares them for college, work, and citizenship. Schoolhouse Communications helped ASCD design and launch the Community Conversations Project as part of its whole child initiative. This public engagement project helps communities explore how to collaborate with schools to support the whole child. Our work included creating a comprehensive how-to guide for local leaders and training state teams.

Believe in a Better Colorado

Believe in a Better Colorado is an unprecedented alliance among Colorado’s three largest education associations to inform more than 40,000 public school employees and school board members about Colorado’s dwindling tax base for essential public services — including K–12 education. Schoolhouse Communications is leading the initiative’s strategic communications efforts to deepen understanding about this critical issue among the associations’ members.

Colorado Department of Education and Colorado Council on the Arts

Poised to release first-of-its kind data about the impact of the arts in Colorado's public schools, CDE and CCA chose Schoolhouse Communications to develop a comprehensive communications and media plan to share the findings with the public and the media. Our team also turned the more indepth evaluation into a reader-friendly report for policymakers, arts leaders, and parents. The study by the Colorado Department of Education and the Colorado Council on the Arts sheds new light on what our public schools are doing well, and where we must improve. The results will benchmark progress in years to come.

Colorado Legacy Foundation

The Colorado Legacy Foundation’s new online 2009 Health and Wellness Best Practices Guide offers best practices, action steps, and success stories for schools and districts. Featured topics include health education, nutrition, physical activity, school health services, and workplace wellness. Packed with practical resources, the Web site and its shorter companion publication were written and designed by Schoolhouse Communications. We partnered with Turtle Island Creative to launch the Web site. Schoolhouse Communications also developed a comprehensive communications and media plan to promote the guide.

The Daniels Fund

Public schools are under more pressure than ever before to improve student achievement. Increasingly, businesses and other community partners are stepping in to help. But are these partnerships resulting in higher achievement for students? The Daniels Fund asked Schoolhouse Communications to research programs across the country and develop a model school partners program, which was adopted by Denver Public Schools. Our team also developed a reader-friendly guide for educators, business leaders, and other stakeholders to identify seven top strategies for successful partnerships.

National Education Association Health Information Network

NEA HIN, a recognized national leader in school safety, chose Schoolhouse Communications to research, write, and help promote its new school crisis guide. This step-by-step online resource makes it easier for educators to keep schools safe – so teachers can teach and children can learn. School Crisis Guide: Help and Healing in a Time of Crisis provides action steps, tips, and resources to help educators prepare for emergencies; respond during a crisis; and assist students, staff, and families recover afterward. The guide was featured on Dr. Phil.
